Burning a CD

1. Insert a blank recordable CD-ROM disc into the CD Burner of the computer.

2. Once the computer detects that you have put the blank CD into the burner, you will see a
Easy CD Creator 4 window, asking you to choose the type of CD you want to create. For most purposes you will choose Data. Data CD’s are useful for archiving documents or sharing files with others. However, if you are making an exact duplicate of an existing CD you will choose CD Copier.

3. Next you will be adding files that you want to record to the
Data CD Layout – the lower half of the window.

4. To do so select the folder where your file is located. The contents of the folder appear in the right hand pane of the
Explorer.

5. From the
Explorer, select the data file that you want to record, and then click Add. Alternatively you may simply drag files in the CD Layout.

6. Repeat this step until the Data CD layout contains all of the files and folders that you want to record.

7. Click
Create CD.

8. A
CD Creation Setup window will appear.

9. Verify that a target device has been selected.

10. In the
Create Options check the option for Create CD.

11. In the
Write Method area choose Track-at-Once and choose either to Leave CD Open if you intend to add files to the CD later, or Close CD if you will not be adding files to the CD later on.

12. Click
OK to begin burning the CD.

13. You will be able to watch the
CD Creation Process window that will keeps you aware of what the computer is doing as the CD-ROM is recording.

14. When the process is finished eject the CD from the burner and test to see that you can access your files from a different computer from the one that you used to burn the CD on.

Zipping Files

Archives are files that contain other files. Zip files are the most common archive format. Typically, the files in an archive are compressed. Two benefits of using archives for electronic file distribution are that only one file transfer operation ("download") is required to obtain all related files, and file transfer time is minimized because the files in an archive are compressed.

1. Open WinZip from the desktop.

2. Click on New from the toolbar.

3. A New Archive window will appear on your desktop.

4. Choose Create and select the My Documents>Your folder, and this is where you want this new archive to be saved to after it is created.

5. Make sure the box along the side has Add Dialog checked and click OK. You will note that at soon as you click “OK” a zip file is created to the location you have specified. All that remains is to add the files to the archive.

6. An Add window will appear on your desktop.

7. Locate and select the first file you want to add to the archive and click Add and repeat until all the files that you want have been added.

8. Choose a compression setting from the Compression drop-down menu.

9. To close this session choose File > Close Archive.

10. When finished, select the files you have saved and transfer them to your disk.
